Remain Software, specialist in Application Lifecycle Management solutions  announces the upgrade of their flagship product, TD/OMS. The latest enhancements bring new, extremely useful functionality, called Fusion, enabling users to retrofit changes after version updates of off-the-shelf (third party) applications. The version of TD/OMS with the Fusion functionality is available November 2013.

TD/OMS can manage changes of in-house developed applications, and any IBM i off-the shelf applications coming from third parties. It is a great step on the TD/OMS roadmap. Change management of integration of third party software has always been challenging. The problem usually starts when off-the-shelf applications are customized to meet the customer requirements . When a software supplier sends and upgrade , the changes made by the customer are out of sync and a cumbersome manual process of retrofitting takes place.

“Before an upgrade of the off-the-shelf application , users want to know what the impact will be to their custom changes. This is why we created Fusion, an easy to use solution to determine this impact and to generate the relevant work within TD/OMS.” – says Wim Jongman, the CTO and managing director at Remain Software.

With TD/OMS Fusion, the process of third party software updates is very simple and consists of a few steps.
  1. The first step is to upgrade, a TD/OMS monitored, installation of the third party software application in a test environment. This upgrade can be done using the third party upgrade utility or with the TD/OMS upgrade installer.
  2. In step two the TD/OMS object analysis function determines new, changed and phased out components and adds these to a TD/OMS task. This provides a complete overview of all impacted components within the third party application.
  3. TD/OMS analyzes the changes of the third party application and determines which custom components are impacted by the update.
  4. The user is ready to start changing their software, to be in line, with the new version of the third party application.
  5. The final step is to update the off-the-shelf application in production and move the retrofitted changes to the local production environment.
Marco Kok, managing director at Remain Software enumerates the benefits, which the latest TD/OMS functionality will bring to its users: “Fusion will have a positive impact on the management of all applications used by any organization. IT Managers, DevOps and software engineers will no longer need to worry about the customization process or problems that coming updates might cause by influencing other software used within their organization. Among many other benefits, it’s also worth mentioning the significant reduction of time spent on off-the-shelf applications’ change management and minimization of conflicts between all applications.”
